Come suggerisce il titolo stesso del disco, Chimes Of Freedom: Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 years of Amnesty International intende celebrare i 50 anni dell’associazione umanitaria, tanti quanti ne sono passati dal primo disco del grandissimo cantautore statunitense. Il gigantesco progetto, i cui proventi andranno interamente ad Amnesty International, è uscito in Italia lo scorso 31 gennaio e contiene 73 rivisitazioni inedite di canzoni di Bob Dylan divise in 4 cd.

A leggere i nomi degli 80 (!) artisti che hanno voluto partecipare al progetto c’è da rimanere sbalorditi sia per il loro livello che per il diversissimo background musicale di provenienza. Grazie a mostri sacri quali Pete Townshend, Mark knopfler, Joan Baez, Pete Seeger, Patti Smith, Diana Krall, Sting o Elvis Costello (solo per citarne alcuni), e a idoli più attuali come ad esempio Adele, Queens Of The Stone Age, Lenny Kravitz, Dave Matthews Band o My Chemical Romance, spaziamo dal rock all’hip hop passando attraverso pop,blues, folk, soul, jazz e reggae.

C’è insomma abbastanza materiale per soddisfare tutti i tipi di palato sia che si voglia storcere il naso di fronte ad alcune performances sia che invece si resti stregati di fronte a nuove straordinarie riproposizioni del sempre attuale Dylan.

A detta di chi vi scrive meritano una menzione particolare i Queens Of The Stone Age che si sono cimentati con Outlaw Blues e soprattutto Carly Simon che con la sua elegante e splendidamente arrangiata versione rende, se mai ce ne fosse stato bisogno, ancora più grande Just Like A Woman, uno dei capolavori assoluti del 71 enne songwriter. A deludere stavolta è invece Adele, la cui Make You Feel My Love non sfiora nemmeno l’originale e risulta nello stile troppo piatta e uguale alle canzoni del suo 21.
